enthralled by the promises

so tomorrow i leave,
its slightly sad, but hope lies in the fact that the new year brings change, happy change, all around =)
i've finished three books in the past 2 weeks and i feel ecstatic, i love reading, its an experience that cannot be defined, it transports you elsewhere, where the only existence you're conscious of is that of your mind and you eyes, its like the rest of you isn't even there. i love feeling that way, conscious only of my mind.
i want to remain sane, not go mad with this vortex of emotions i somehow find myself experiencing all the time. its so wonderful to be human, to be blessed with the power to think and create. i dont know where im heading with this post, but whatever it is, the journey makes me happy, everything needn't be a state function, that's what architecture has taught me so far.
when im happy, i dont seem to need anybody, i should be happy all the time!
well anyway, ill just leave you with some sort of poetry i assume i'll be able to string together if i try.

the delirious flow of inspiration
left her breathless, suffocated with possibility
the tide within could evoke eternal flight
such was the pleasure

words always disappointed her
the need to define overwhelmed
the desire to manifest, invigourated

whoopsie-daisy
stone face loves her

piece of the wooden puzzle

i must write more often.

Designing is so much of a spontaneous, fun exercise that cannot for any to people mean the same thing. I was never a designer. I would never have been able to bear that responsibility of complete dependability on my creation.
This profession that I've chosen expects me to do the very same. The responsibility of designing something that is creatively satisfying, juicing out all my sense of aesthetics and practicality, something that is subjectively perfect, satisfying the needs of another human's existence and humanity on a larger scale, something that does not disturb the natural balance that exists in our environment and something that i can justify, love, respect and cherish like my child, my creation.
It will love me back as a parent, in the pleasure that i will feel each time i see it make a difference to each of the above mentioned aspects i so carefully would have taken into account as i designed it.
I have taken up this responsibility and i'm very well aware of the direction i must head in, without losing sight of the greater goal. I do not know what will work for me. I must be arrogant, selfish and possessive about my work, i must make it that much a part of me to feel that way. Some exercises i realize might retard my approach towards where i want to head, but mastering them will only make me better.
Making optimum use of naturally available resources will be one of my concerns, as will be the functionality and utility of the structure to fellow human beings.

terror stricken lives

blogging not about myself can get a little unnerving at times, hence the hiatus.

They're on a rampage. killing people, bombing key areas, creating havoc and here we are all over again helpless, defenseless, just waiting for it all to get over.
I can't believe that while people are getting killed all we can hope for is for life to get back on track and for daily schedules to resume. We really are pretty darn insensitive, this day that we've been warned not to venture out is being treated like a holiday, a break.
I once told her, the one i love most dearly, we don't realize the magnitude of taking risks because we get away with them most of the time.
Life cannot be so ugly, will this too be forgotten just like the other incidents, we don't seem to be able to do anything about it anyway. Euphemistically, just wipe out this race. They won't let anybody survive, not even themselves.
What is achieved out of terrorizing innocent people is still a mystery. Where is the conscience? Is such sadism the only pleasure these sick minds feel?
I believe in God, where are you God? you cannot let so many of us kill each other.
May the force save us.

reverse polarity

he longed for the touch of her fingers, her sweet-smelling hair that fell in soft curls. It had been almost yesterday when she lay her head on his chest, the weight of her laugh still lingering in his head.

he waited, by the trees, the brooks, the valleys, her appearance was seldom unwavering. He dreamt of starry nights, of her eyes glistening in the moonlight, of the definate protrusions of bones on her fine skin.

she would come, his longing defied all resistance.

PS- not a very good attempt, nevertheless.

synopsis on toys by roland barthes

Roland Barthes writes about the toys that the children of this generation are given to play with.
These toys are miniature versions of the adult world because sadly the child is considered to be a smaller adult and not a younger adult.

The ability to think, imagine and create is killed by these toys because of their complex nature.

This results in the child inadvertently accepting its social environment without any questions or objections. The author believes that enforcing these concepts of the "adult world" on a child corrupts his/her mind and creates in the mind of the child an attitude that he/she has to fit into their social setup and cannot have an individualistic approach/ability.

He also considers such an attempt as an assault on the creative and inventive quality that is inherent in every human being.

The child becomes a mere owner or user and not a creator or an inventor. He/She remains oblivious to the joy of discovery, imagination and creation.

Building blocks are examples of toys that encourage and stimulate a child's mind. Using these toys the child makes things that may/may not be functional but they are something that he/she has created and are specific to his/her thought process and hence represent his individual sense of understanding his/her environment and using it to his/her best advantage. Playing with building blocks, the child explores the different structures that he/she can create with the very same blocks, only by changing its position or integrating it with other blocks. Slowly and progressively the child will create structures that not only have form but are also functional. Such stimulation is essential to developing minds that think individually.

Another aspect that he points out is the material that is used to make toys. He condemns the use of the extremely impersonal plastic as a material and the complex construction of toys. Toys of this generation are merely chemical objects with no kind of connection to the pioneer conception of toys, which is, to think, create and explore. These toys are vulnerable to the breaking of one little spring which leads to a total collapse. They do not have any post-expiry importance to offer and are absolutely useless once broken.

It is also pointed out that gradually the toys made of wood are becoming extinct in spite of its ideality as a material used for making toys. It is obtained from a living source and this itself forges a bond between the child and the toy. Wooden toys never break they only wear out progressively owing to the interactions between the hand and the toy. They are timeless and everlasting. The most cherished quality of wood is its human, almost life-like touch. Such materials represent the untiring efforts that the human race has made to evolve from the very basic and humble beginnings. They represent the growth of man in terms of his role as an inventor and the growth of technology in terms of the progress in materials. Most importantly they keep us rooted to our source.

goodbye

he walked in with the calmth of the ocean,
when he spoke, the fire in his eyes was put to shame by his words
he seemed to flow in with a passion that was almost infectious,
his confluence implored sensuality,
the functioning of his grey matter, imponderable,
it was his mind that made him impatient.
he came like a strong gust of wind,
threatening to wind us up, along with him,
he left like a zephyr,
his euphonious aura leaving a void that never will be filled.

we will miss you
good luck

college

I am an ordinary/average/regular person. This is a new phase of my life and i want to cherish each and every memory of it. Hence, this blog.
I will write all about my college, how wonderful it is, how great i feel about my environment and the people surrounding me.
I have just begun going to college. It feels like the best thing that's ever happened to me, im happy beyond comprehension. I've started this blog so that i can catalog every moment of this enchanting experience.
Its my third week in college. We have 8 subjects. Each lecture is intellectually stimulating to such extents that im left reeling in the maze of my thoughts that transport me elsewhere.
At first, it felt so vague and baseless, but now it feels like i can keep sinking deeper and deeper into this swirl of ideas and possibilities.
We started off with a 2 week workshop wherein we slowly worked towards building a 3-D object from a story. Each person came up with a detectice story and were then segregated into groups. We picked our favorite part from the story and tried to put it all together to build an object. My group dealt with SPD and its various facets. Eventually, we built a structure from with 6 protruding arms, each with a unique concept for viewing the object placed at the centre. It was a great success and opened our minds to allow thoughts to grow to humungous proportions instead of shutting them out as we've learnt all these years.
Last week onwards our classes started. We have 8 innovative subjects.
I will give a detailed idea of each subject.
Basic Design:
We started off with a game of elimination. Our first clue was to sketch all the objects that we can think of, which has holes. My next clue is juicy, i have to integrate these two clues and wait for the 3rd one.
Architectural Design:
We were given few words that we had to pick out from chits to form a sentence. Now we have to build a situation around that sentence and sketch the character as we see it. Its almost like sketching a sentence or a word. It may/may not have a definate/recognisable form. Thats the beauty of it all, dealing with inanimate/unreal/unseen representations.
Humanities:
We're discussing as of now the history of architecture in terms of the social perspective. We're delving into the purpose of history and the definitions of words that we use in a broader context. I really like such discussions, arguing with the existing, already approved of as correct, concepts.
Theory of Design:
We started off by debating and questioning the image of a woman that has been globally constructed over the centuries and determining its relevance. We now have to write a synopsis of an article by Roland Barthes on toys. I might post my assignment here, it will provide a brief idea of the issue in question.
Building Technology:
We are supposed to use wind energy and convert it into mechanical or any other form of energy by creating a mechanism that will put the object to good use. The outcome must have a practical application.
Graphics:
This subject mostly deals with technical drawings. It will provide us will tools to represent our perception.
Constructions:
Here, we deal with various building materials and processes. It is more theoritical as compared to the other subjects.
Besides these subjects we have film screenings and encouters as a part of our curriculum. In encounters, we have people from different walks of life come and give us a talk about their professions and they entertain any questions that we might have.
We also have visual studies and structures, but we haven't had a lecture yet so i will write about it later.
Feels like a good start for this new phase.
